when u die i believe that ur soul rises and either goes down in the fires of hell or into heaven with God up above. now i think your body turns back into ashes and becomes one with the eath as it say in the bible, ashes to ashes and dust to dust. everyone has there own beliefs on wat happens. some believe that ur get reincarnated in to a animal or something like that or u go to a place of peace. actually i think everyone believes that there is life after death. i life of no pain or worries , where ur happy and u never get old or die ever again. there u never sick or tired ur always energized and up beat never droppy. its a utopia , a paradise. no one really knows how the after life is because everyone where is there are dead and its not like we can talk to them because i know i cant talk to the dead ,lol. where i get my vision of the after life is from the bible . all i know is that is gonna be much better than eath. i think in the bible it said that its a place gated with a golden gate and golden roads and that would be a sight to see. in the movies the always have the after life where u wake up in a white room and God standing or an angle and they have a conversation with you about your life and how u have lived and and either send you to heaven or hell. Now i dont know if it really happens like that, but all i know is that when i wake up from my sleep after i die i hope im in heaven and no where else.
upper-classmen thoughts on xu mission statement Sunday, Mar 1 2009
Week Four 8:56 pm
i went around to many upperclassmen and most of them said that they really dont think about the mission statement, the only time they have looked at the mission statement was when someone told the they had to. and just like them i have only looked at the mission statement because this class told me that i had to write about it and the only way to do that is to read the mission statement.actually one of my interviewers were suprised at how short the mission statement was when i showed him the statement because he didnt even remember wat is was even about, but all though he says he doesnt think about it , he feels that he does follow to a certain degree, which trying to lend a hand in trying to make a just and humane society.when he first read though when he was a freshmen he remembers thinking the mission statement was pretty straight forward and idealistic because he feels that xu doesnt really follow the mission statement as he really thought about it. maybe we should all ask ourselves if we really believe that xu installs statement. no one campus really cares about about he mission statement and dont even know where to find it, even though its like on the second page of the xu catalog .but when person after person were giving me the same response, it started to give me a lose of hope that i wasnt going to be able to write a 250 word blog about their thoughts about the xu mission statement.
heaven? Sunday, Mar 1 2009
Week Two 8:22 pm
i truely believe that there is a heaven. there has to be a better place than this, a place where u hav no worries or pains. i really dont know wat heaven looks like , i believe heaven is wat ever you want to to be. you get rewarded by god to have a choice when u get into heaven to look as you want it to look. if there wasnt a heaven or if no one believed in it then people would be lose. people need something to look forward to and revolve their lives around. heaven inspires people to live in the light of god. heaven gives people a push to be good and do wat is right. the idea of heaven does promote and just and humane society because in order to get into heaven you have to have lived ur life right. bad people who have lived there life in sin and dont askes God for forgiveness and to come into the heart, then they dont get into heaven they go straight in to the pits of fire for all eternity to be tormented. heaven is only for those that God rewards for live a just an humane. Now this is only my beliefs and i am not pushing my beliefs on anyone , i am just saying how i feel and wat i grew up on.
memorable funeral Sunday, Mar 1 2009
Week One 7:45 pm
my most memorable funeral is my father’s mother funeral. This was the hardest funeral to get through and the only funeral i have ever cried at. this funeral was such a suprise because just a week before i was talking to her and laying next to her in her hospital bed. she was only suppose to be there for a few days, it never went through my mind that i would never see her again. when someone dies in my fathers family we always go to the same little baptist church on the bayou, i have been goin there ever since i can remember. this funeral was differnt from all the others i have attended. there were so many cars parking n the lot and all along the 2way street. as usual my family and i walked n behind my grandmother making it to the front of the church. my uncles and aunts sat in the front row and my cousins , sisters and i sat n the second row. i couldnt even look at my grandmother because she didnt look the same and i didnt want to start balling n the church. now i have a little in side joke about my family , i like to call them coffin hoppers. you see on of my uncles and aunt have a tendency to get to out of control and always have to be takin to the back. but on the day it seemed like all the brothers and sisters were up there, they had to close the coffin because my uncle was trying to take her out , i have to say looking bac on it that was sooo funny. but the most funniest thing that sticks to my mind is when my dad came up and asked them to open up the coffin because my grandmother couldnt breath. i know thats really mean to laugh but she was dead, she cant breath death people dont breath. i love goin to funeral to see wat my crazy family might do or say.
Mardi Gras Whopeee!!! Friday, Oct 31 2008
Week Six 8:24 am
since i have lived in new orleans the majority of my life i have been privaliged to experience the best festival i say in the world which happens to be MARDI GRAS in the Big Eazy. All of my experiences i hold dear but the one i will talk about is the first time i rode on a float in the Trucks Parade on mardi gras day. my family and i had to get up really early before daylight to get on our float and get our beads hung and our costumes on to be judged on our arrival at the line up station. the atmosphere of that day was nothing i have every experienced before. the ride to the line up was so intense and i felt like i was on cloud 9, alll i could think about was how i was gonna throw my beads, who i was going to throw them to and where i was going to throw them, you see you have to stradige ur route if you want to have enough beads to last the how ride. when we finally got to out station we sat there for like a million hours, every year zulu has to be late so it backs up all the other parades, it was the longest wait i have ever did. when we finally got rollin i had a rush of adriliene. i saw all my friends and gave them the best beads and everyone else the ugly one Lol , all i did was what people do to me during mardi gras, i never get any good beads. when we got to the last street , canal street, i was chaotic,i mean it was a sea of people just hanging on the float tryin to get ur beads. they have a group of ppl we riders like to call jumpers, if u hang a bead over the side u see them jump so high just to grab it, thats really fun. I LoVE MARDI GRAS
how has poverty helped and crippled new orleans? Friday, Oct 24 2008
Week Four 10:52 am
Being a native New Orleans, personally I have never experience a sense of poverty until after Hurricane Katrina. Poverty has been good and bad to New Orleans. One benefit of poverty in New Orleans is the preservation of are most valued tradition, music, food and culture. If not all, most of the things that people love about this city comes from and created by the poor. Poverty has kept our special city in a time capsule that makes it different from all the rest. In my own experience how poverty has helped New Orleans is the opportunities people had after hurricane Katrina. After that terrible day people saw how poor New Orleans really was and were very generous. People that had nothing pre Katrina we able to get almost everything they wanted. They we able to get housing, better education ECT. Being poor in New Orleans also has its down side. Since the public school systems in New Orleans are so bad, people of poverty can’t afford to pay for Private school with better books, technology, teachers and facilities. Poverty in the NO is almost like caste system once you’re in it; it’s very hard to get out. A good example of this is people who live in public housing (projects). Many families have lived in the same housing complex on the same floor from generation to generation. Another down fall of poverty is that there are more renters than homeowners. Houses are so expensive that many can’t buy due to America’s economic crisis.
what my fav class at xavier? Friday, Oct 24 2008
Week Five 10:52 am
I don’t really have any class I can truly say are my favorite, all I have are a few, not many, that grasp my attention. The classes that I like are my two labs of chemistry and biology and freshmen seminar. I like labs because I have an A; I understand the material and its hands on. I learn better when I can get involved in what I’m trying to understand, that’s the reason why I haven’t said I like any of my lectures cause they are boring and I hate to sit and listen to someone talk for and hour and some on material that I can interact with. When I am active I don’t get as sleepy or bored, I get sidetrack very easily and if you don’t have me doing something I will fall asleep or daydream. I can say that my favorite lab between chemistry and biology is chemistry. I think this is so funny because my major is biology but o well. Another class that I like sometimes not all the time is freshmen seminar because we talk about current events and how to survive Xavier which we all need the secrets to. I think that would makes Xavier class better is for the teacher to try in relate to their students. Try to use examples of things in modern day and apply them to their lesson plans. Also by interacting with the students more and stop standing up at the board writing and talking.
why did you chosse to come to Xavier? Thursday, Oct 23 2008
Week One 2:25 pm
“Why did you choose to come to Xavier?” this seems to be the question everyone is always asking me these days. I chose Xavier for many reasons but only one tops them all. Like many others at this university, I came here because of getting into medical school. Xavier University is the top school for getting minorities into medical school and some years from now I want to be a product of that. Another reason is that ever since I was little I always dreamed of attending Xavier. I use to go to the school fairs and run down the halls of my cousin’s dorm room. Everyone told me if I wanted to become a doctor then my first step was going to Xavier University of Louisiana. What makes Xavier so special to me is that it’s in my home city New Orleans. I have been away from New Orleans for three years due to hurricane Katrina. I missed the city so much that I had to come and it was great that Xavier was here so I could do that. I think choosing Xavier university was one of the best choices I have made so far, hopefully I have many more to come. With Xavier’s tough curriculum and teacher, I think they will prepare me to meet my future goals and dreams. I am only a few more steps from be coming the doctor I always wanted to be. The future is right at my fingertips, all i have to do is grab it and run.
who do you think would make a great political leader and why Thursday, Oct 23 2008
Week Three 2:25 pm
Barak Obama in my opinion would be a great political leader. He is for the revolutionary change of America and its natives. He stands for the common good and equality among all people not matter what race or gender you are. Through his background of being multiracial and growing up in a single parent home (single-mother), Obama can relate and touch a lot of people. What make Barrack Obama a great leader is his voice, when he speaks it with such authority and gentleness. his facial features which shows serenity, his stand that up straight with chest out, his eyes that look straight into yours and grasp your attention and his ears that listen to your every need and concern. If Obama becomes the new president of the United States of America, he will bring us into a new era and show, and be a good role model for other courtiers, that we are trying to strive for the future and get unstuck from the past. Another quality of Obama that I have notice sense watching the presidential debate is his sense of fearlessness. During the debate no matter the difficulty of the question Obama had a calm tone, face and mannerism. He answered all the questions with assertiveness and was very chilled about it. Hopefully Barrack Obama will become the new president, make history and make true the dream of every child, that you can truly become anything you want to be, EVEN THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNTIED STATES.
what are your professional plans and how does xavier’s mission affect that? Thursday, Oct 23 2008
Week Two 2:25 pm
“Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society. To this end, Xavier prepares its students to assume roles of leadership and service in society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.”(Xavier Mission) After college I will like to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. Ever since i could remember i always wanted to become a docotor and i use to sit in front of the tv everynight and watch ER on the discovery channeled and dreamed to be just like them when i grow up. I always loved kids and I feel like my purpose in life is to help others Also some day further in my career i would like ot open up my our clinic in area of low income families. The mission of Xavier affects me because it all about leadership and service. Well being a doctor is all about being a leader of service to your community. Xavier’s mission is leading me in the right direction to be a great doctor. i will be a service to kids and a leader of my fellow peers. Through my actions i hope to influence others to help the unfortunate and stand up for a more just society. Also by xavier being all about research this will help me find what i want to specialize in and even my change my decision on what field i want to go in.
