Being a Xavierite is pretty great. Xavier is small and its easy to get around. overall I would not want to be anywhere else. Too have fun one should be involved in the many actives that Xavier have in store for us. Xavier is trying to live up to its mission. By what I’m seeing so far they fulfill it. Through community service and other things they are prompting a more humane and just society. After my first semester I feel good about coming back next year and for the next three years. I want to graduate as a Xavierite as soon as im ready. Classes are a challenge but they just make me want to strive for more and to be better. I love how this school makes us stay involved how we are like a family. The mission of Xavier is being carried out even though alotta people dont know it.

Automobiles and interstates givesevery one the ability to travel distances, whether it be short or long, and are a huge role in the sucsess of the fast food industry. It gives them the freedom to travel wherever they want whenever they want. They do not have to follow a bus schedule or go by anyone else’s time if they wanted to go to a fast food chain in order to eat or just to simply drive around and enjoy the landscape. Since the interstate gives us so much freedom to go anywhere as we please, we can go to any fast food chain or place easily. This gave us the ability to travel long distances to other states to visit relatives or to go on vacations. There are fast food chains at almost every interstate exit. The reason for this was because people get hungry, while driving long distances so they are forced to take a pit stop into a fast food chain or else they will starve. Fast food chains are similar to automobiles. In the past, automobiles and fast food chains were not as high tech as they are now. Now a days, everything in technology is simplified so people can maximize their time and will still be able to do other activities with ease. Over time, fast food chains developed drive thrus. This made it easier for individuals to be even lazier and order in their car. Fast food jobs are made to be the easiest job that anyone can handle because all of the tasks are things that they do every day. They have specific things to say and perform every hour of the day. Also, fast food spread all over the world to different countries, like italy and australia. The diversity and renowned name is how automobiles and interstates play a role in spreading the fast food culture

Katharine Drexel was born on November 26, 1858 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born into an extremely wealthy family that invested in numerous banks and her uncle was the founder of Drexel University in Philadelphia. As a young woman, she met Pope Leo XIII in Europe and from that moment on she had a life changing experience. She assumed the role of a missionary and became interested in the well-being of African Americans and Native Americans. She founded the order of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, where the sisters who joined the order were primarily focused on the well-being of African Americans and Native Americans. St. Katharine Drexel established numerous schools, convents, and churches in the South and West to cater to the needs of the two minority groups. She used her incredible amount of inheritance to fund the operations of these establishments and often traveled a long distance to pay a visit to each one to monitor their progress. She is most famous for establishing Xavier University in New Orleans, where it started out as a school for teachers. The campus later expended and has become one of the most renowned universities in the nation. On October 1, 2000 she was canonized as a saint. She was a humble woman of prayer, who was dedicated to making a difference in the world. believe that St. Katharine Drexel would be extremely proud of Xavier University today. It is nationally recognized as the number one school in preparing African Americans to go to medical school. This school provides a chance for African American students to be well rounded individuals both educationally and spiritually. Her vision for an equal opportunity of success for people of color is definitely evident in Xavier University.

Maybe he Does Have a political agenda. but i dont see it. But Eric Schlosser touched many topics about the fast food industry from the fact that so many so many fast food restaurants are robbed to the notion that so many people controlling the regulation and interests of fast food restaurants are Republicans. Schlosser further elaborates by mentioning the names of several Republicans and the companies they have stock in or are part owner of. Because these tycoons are so concerned about their revenue, they tend to take the short cuts on purchases. These politcians support cheaper prices when in many cases using cheaper companies to produce food for the fast food restaurants is very unsafe and has proved to be detrimental to many people’s health. Many have died while working in these facilities because of unsafe job practices. And others still have suffered with diseases from bacteria such as E coli due to the simple act of these politicians choosing the companies that are less pricy though in many cases the food turns out in a bad state. Schlosser discusses these crafty and coniving politicans, specifically Republicans, to allow citizens to see the reality of the fast food industry and the fact that many of these politicians only care about profit. Though the author may seem to take a position or a specific side in the subject of political afilliment, he is however not so concerned with a political party as he is with individuals being informed of the corruption in these fast food industry giants and the elected officials that support them. Schlosser’s aim is to open the eyes of those who may otherwise not realize the fact that many of our elected officials are influencing the very quality of the food we eat from McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell and the many other fast food restaurants like them that are unhealthy and morally unjust.

In fast food nation what they did to workers was wrong. in our book Kenny was a worker of Monfort who was super loyal to his company. Unfortunately however Monfort didn’t feel this way at all about Kenny. Instead the company abused him, as if he was another piece of cattle. The ‘use’ almost used up all of Kenny in that he could have very well died many of times from the company being negligent. By being an Monfort employee, Kenny was subjected to blood tanks, gut bins and hazardous chemicals to name a few. I personally don’t know anyone that has gone through what Kenny did, but I do know many people who have in a sense been taken advantage of by their job. My Aunt for instance worked as an supervisor for a very big company in memphis. In the beginning of this job my Mother was happy to be given this better opportunity than what she had before. However as time went on I would see her come home stressed, over-worked and unable to sleep at night. This was for the most part due to the fact that my Aunts boss put more pressure and work on her than other employees. For example when bad weather would hit, the company would allow employees to work from home. However when my Mother would put in her request she was 90% of the time rejected. I found this incredibly unfair given that her boss would deny her request when they would work from home multiple times a week. My Aunt eventually quit but she shouldnt have had too Given situations like Kenny’s, I feel that more needs to be done in order to improve the conditions of workers from; safety to fairness at all levels. People Shouldnt over look this

English I would have to say is my favorite class. Above all else I feel that I like this class because of the teacher. he is someone who has a calm spirit where she truly likes teaching us even though he is young and is recently out of school herself. Yet when he speaks or depicts something for us I can see he knows what he is talking about. he is always telleng us cool and interesting things.I never feel confused or too bored in class. he has expectations for us and expects alot, however, she knows that part of this is still a learning experience. Truly the teacher and the material can make or break a class it can be the determining factor on how well you learn and what you retain. English is a great class because I love to write but I also can have one class where I am not stressed. Im pretty happy with it. Plus This is where I can just express some of my thoughts through various topics . Here things are not as stressful because there really is no exam just papers and reading. That is another thing I like about this class, the documentaries that take us away from the norm andWe can watch something that capitivates us and affects how I feel emotionally making it easier for me to write because it has a real pull on me.

be cause of this book the Jungle by Upton Sinclair congress enact food safety legislation in . it shows conditions of a slaughter house in Chicago he stated “under conditions that are entirely unnecessary and unpardonable, which are a constant menace not only to their own health, but to the health of those who use the food products prepared by them”. Most of Chicago’s packing house workers had gained union representation by the end of the depression. Union workers, were primarily European immigrants) fought tirelessly to make a statement in regards to the unbearable working conditions, After World World 11, their wages greatly improved, soon exceeding the national average for workers in manufacturing, but it was still a back breaking job. In his book he described horrors like sever back and shoulder injuries, lacerations, amputations, exposure to dangerous chemicals. I think this book Fast Food Nation will not change the fast food industry much . Fast food nations shines the light on the hidden truths of the business but it doesn’t really make people totally discouraged form eating fast food. Fast food nation didn’t uncover any really superbad facts . The public knowing what their food is cooked in and who is giving them their food isn’t really earth shattering. Both books have an impact on the fast food industry. But The Jungle make people really think about what they could be eating. and Fast food nation is super informative but not many will stop eating fast food soon.

before to the year 1965, McDonald’s received its potatoes from about almost 200 different local suppliers. Crew members spent a lot of time peeling and slicing potatoes. French fries in McDonald’s were popular and the demand for them were high every body wanted them. Before fast food industries knew anything about frozen french fries, they were making fresh fries themselves. The amount of time and labor this took called for money. In 1965 however, Ray Kroc met with J.R. Simplot to change the french fry game forever. J.R Simplot had come up with a new idea of selling frozen french fries to Mcdonalds and , later on, other fast food industries. He even made a factory just dedicated to the making of McDonalds fries. The production of frozen fries has since become a competitive business. Frozen french fries have become a bulk commodity, manufactured in high volumes at a low profit margin. The eminently profits being made from the sale of french fries have barely trickled down to farmers. The market is one in which a small number of buys exert power over a larger number of sellers.Out of every $1.50 spent on a large order of fries at a fast food restaurant, perhaps two cents goes to the farmer who grew the potatoes.”According to Schloesser, the latest potato harvesting equipment can set a farmer back hundreds and thousands of dollars. In Bingham County, it costs about 1,500 an acre to grow potatoes and the average farmer there plants about four hundred acres. The giant processing companies do whatever they so that they will drive down the prices offered to potato farmers. “The increased productivity of of Idaho farmers has lowered prices even further, shifting more of the profits to the processors and the fast food chains.
