Interview on Xavier Mission Friday, Dec 11 2009

Xavier mission is to promote a more just and humane society. The person I interviewed said that Xavier mission is very important because we as students should take this as a way to assume the leadership roles in society and by giving back to our community by doing community service and using a education that we recieve now as a portal to future success.

St. Katherine Drexel would she be happy with Xavier today? Tuesday, Dec 8 2009

Personally I think that St. Katherine Drexel would be happy with the way Xavier turned out today. She started out with the mission to help Native and African Americans to obtain a good education. Over the years we can see that down to our day Xavier is doing that. It is number one in placing African Amercian into medical and has a great pharmacy program as well. I do not think that should would like some of the changes, but with times everything change whether it is for good or bad.

What would Barack Obama’s father think of the book? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

In my opionin I think that Barack Obama’s father would be very please with the turn out of the book. The book is very enlighting to Obama life prior to becoming the person that he is today. This booked showed how much human Obama is. That like all of us, we can sometimes live in world of confusion and sometimes struggle with finding our place in a world full of uncertainy. I think that the book was pretty straight forward about his family life and his and the way he grew up.

What is your favorite class at Xavier and why? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

I have more than one favorite classes at Xavier my first choice is my psychology class. I always was interested in the mind and why people in society do the things that they do. I like the class because it’s a class where you explore the unconscious part of the mind.It shows how some of the problems we have are not as they always seem and that our problems may go a lot deeper than the physical. It helps me to understand some of the ideas behind things such as daydreams and nightmares. It helps me to understand how different pats of the brian works and if damaged what effects it would have on our physical being.  It also help me understand how psychology came about as a science. My second favorite class at Xavier is my biology class. This is because I basically love science and how so many of the things we do on a daily basis ties in with science.

How has poverty benefited New Orleans? How has it hurt New Orleans? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

I am not a native of New Orleans, but I can not speak on how poverty has benefited New Orleans. I only see how it has hurt New Orleans. When I look at New Orleans I see a great place fill with things to do. On the other hand when I look at the city I see it is poverty stricken and filled with crime. The main thing that stick out in my mind is hurricane Katrina.  I think that after New orleans suffered it, this showed exactly how poor the people are there. Most people did not have insurance. Others where very dependent on goverment assistantce and others could not get transportation to get out of the city in time enough. A good percentage of New Orleans population is black. Huge number of them live on the boardline of poverty in such places the ninth ward.

I am a loyal and trustworthy person. I am assertive I have the drive and ability to get what I want out of life and how to go about getting it. I am self-confident in my ability to get things done. I work hard to the best of my ability. I am slow to anger and great at handling situation under great amounts of pressure. What are your professional plans and how does Xavier’s mission affect that? Saturday, Oct 10 2009

Xavier mission states that its purpose is to help promote a more just and humane society. My professional plans are to one day attend medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in hopes of becoming a pediatrician. I can not see how Xavier mission directly ties in with my professional plans, but I can say that  my purpose in life in general is to help people.  I particularly care to help children. The way I see my profession some how tieing in with the mission is by fighting to make healthcare more affordable to low income families. Especially because I myself grew up in a low income house and just getting the basic’s thing such as checkups and being able to get the medications needed was an big challenge.

why did I choose Xavier? Sunday, Aug 30 2009

Why did I choose to attend Xavier? Is a question a lot of people has asked me, but I have as always wanted to do something in life to help others. My main focus is to help children since they are our future. My dream is one day to become a pediatrician. I was not interested in many schools since I had my heart set on attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Over the years I had heard a lot about the school and its reputation. So I decided to take a visit and figured that the school was not a fit for me considering how big the student body was. I decided to do an in depth research and found Xavier. I chose Xavier not only because its close to home and a historically black college; I chose Xavier because I believe that they will instill me with skills necessary to gain entry into to medical school. I believe that Xavier is a place where students like myself can get the quality education needed were teachers are not teaching just to take a check home at the end of the day, but rather they genuinely care about students and have their best interest at heart  not just figure them as a number. Since Xavier is also strongly rooted in the community it also gives me a chance to help others which is my main objective at the end of the day.
