I didnt intend to… Sunday, Oct 11 2009

Throughout junior year until mid senior year I had always had my heart set on attending Tulane University. Xavier was not even in my top three schools to attend. Xavier was not considered by me at first because I did not want to fulfill the typical expectation that others had for me. Everyone I spoke to about college always seemed to either assume or thought that they knew for a fact I would choose to attend Xavier and study Pre-Pharmacy. In other words I felt like an “ASIANS ATTEND XAVIER for PHARMACY SCHOOL” thing was turning into a stereotype and I did not want to be apart of it. So why am I here now? Well…. I applied for many universities and before I made my final decision, I wanted to at least give each school a chance and visit its campuses. After visiting Xavier’s campus a couple of times and meeting everyone, I changed my mind. I thought to myself that Xavier is the right place for me and going to school here would be an interesting experience. Financially, Xavier was also better option too and so far everything has been fine, except for that parking lot and its pot holes .

My Career Goal and Xavier’s Mission Sunday, Oct 11 2009

My career goal is to be an successful anesthetist, who many can depend and rely on. Behind every strong building is a solid blueprint that jump started everything. As for Xavier, the secret behind its strength can be found in the University’s mission statement. I believe Xavier is one of the best schools that can help me fulfill my career goal and dreams, because Xavier’s mission focuses on teaching it students to learn in a diverse environment and way. In addition Xavier’s mission is also to create better character out of its student, so that they can serve and lead in a more just society. Xavier does not just focus on empowering students in their book studies but also through their characters. The mission proves that not only can Xavier help me reach my career goal but it can also help me be the best in it.

Leadership Sunday, Oct 11 2009

A good leader is composed of many different skills and characteristics. I believe in order to be a good leader not only do you have to know how to act but you also have to act the part. Time management and versatility would be my strongest points when it comes to leadership skills. I learned quickly throughout my high school years, that in order to be a successful leader you have to be versatile and organized. Being on the executive board of more that five different organization required a lot of flexibility or versatility on my part. I had to learn how to balance both school, sports, and clubs at the same time. Along with extra curricular activities came responsibilities, that other member or students depended on me to take care of. In order for me to stay on task I had to be organized or else I would not have remembered to do anything.

Paperless Class Sunday, Oct 11 2009

I enjoy open discussions and how freshmen seminar assignments are very convenient. Its one of the less stressful classes yet very informative at times. The only negative part of freshmen seminar would be that its worth zero credits.  I find the class interesting and fun. Certain in class activities that we were required to do allowed the class see each others individual sides. Freshmen seminar seems like a class that can give students the inside information on how to handle things the right way. Hearing stories from experienced students and relating it to my situation makes school a lot more manageable. In a sense, freshmen seminar not only teaches its student how to be successful but it also helps them to keep a positive attitude on their way to success.

Poverty: Good Thing or Bad Thing For New Orleans Sunday, Oct 11 2009

In any poverty stricken neighborhood you will most likely find crime and drugs. Poor circumstances pushes people to make poor decisions. Ethics are thrown out the window as  fathers, sons, mothers, and etc. try to make ends meet. Its a bad thing because in a sense many people will use the idea of poverty to try and justify their actions. Too often people can get caught up in a mentality which disables them to set any goals or believe in them selves to achieve something better.  On the other hand, in areas of poverty, if you drive around and look hard enough, you can also find charities and others who are looking out for the well-being of others.  Not only does poverty bring out the worst side of people but it can also bring out the best side of others. In my opinion poverty has a larger negative impact on its people than a positive impact.

Dreams from My Father Sunday, Oct 11 2009

President Obama’s father would be very proud of his son after reading Dreams from My Father. He would probably think about the people the Barack mentioned in the book that kept him in his son mind. Although Obama’s parents were divorced his mother and grandparents never failed to keep a positive image of his father in Obama’s head. The President father would also think about the development of his son’s positive characteristic even though he was never there to mentor him. Obama’s strong will, curiosity, and cleverness lead him to success. Its hard to believe that Barack’s father can even think negatively about this book. His thoughts on his son’s confusion about his own identity most likely would make Obama’s  father think that he could have made it easier for his son if he was there to talk to him.  The book would have answered many questions that Obama’s father had about his son when he was away if he had any. Just reading at the title its self Dreams from My Father would make a father think that he is appreciated and feel highly honored.
