Senior Interview Wednesday, Dec 9 2009
Week Nine 11:57 am
I couldn’t interview a current senior but I did interview a Xavier graduate. He said that he thought Xavier’s mission to prepare its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global community is a great idea but he doesn’t necessarily think students at Xavier are learning to become leaders. He said before he came to Xavier he was so motivated but once he started with his classes the courses were so hard that he eventually only did enough work to pass so that he wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed with work.
Do You Think Katherine Drexel Would Be Happy With Xavier Today? Wednesday, Dec 9 2009
Week Eight 11:47 am
I think Katherine Drexel would be very proud and happy with Xavier today. Her goal was to set up a school that would help African Americans and Native Americans get an education. She financed may schools with her own money and I tink she would be very happy to see how prosperous Xavier has become. Xavier is sending many students into medical school and eventually those students who graduate from medical school help people through medicine so her cycle of helping others continues.

What Would Barack Obama’s Father Think of the Book? Monday, Oct 5 2009
Week Six 1:19 pm
I can’t really say what Barack Obama Sr. would think about his son’s book. Seeing as how he only visited Barack Jr. once for a few weeks when he was ten, he can’t say too much or be upset because Barack Jr. only wrote about what he knew concerning his father. I mean Barack Jr. only wrote the truth so Barack Sr. can’t be mad at that. As for the other things Barack Jr. wrote about simply like life , he again only wrote about what he knew and what he experienced. overall I think Barack Sr. would be proud of his son. He would be proud that his son was able to write about his life experiences and that people would actually be interested and want to learn about him and his life. I think Barack Sr. would be most proud of the fact that his son was able to take his life experiences and learn from them and use them to help him become president.
What Is Your Favorite Class? Monday, Oct 5 2009
Week Five 12:44 pm
My favorite class this year so far is intro to sociology. I like the class because I am learning so much about how people interact with each other. I didn’ t think I would like the class at first but it’s very interesting. I also like the class because I made an A on my first exam and I have an A in the class. The professor is very nice and is a good teacher. I think that the class is as interesting as it is because of the atmosphere in the classroom. Instead of just reading out of the textbook we have discussions in class. The discussions help me understand the topics better which makes it easier for me to enjoy the class.
Poverty in New Orleans Monday, Oct 5 2009
Week Four 12:27 pm
I really don’t think poverty is beneficial to any city. I can think of only three possible reasons why poverty might seem beneficial to New Orleans. One reason is people from other places might feel compeled to donate their money or time to help fight poverty. Another reason why poverty in New Orleans might seem beneficial is that it has provided attention like during Katrina that the government has really done nothing to help fight poverty. Another reason why poverty might be beneficial to New Orleans is that people like the city and they want to see it improve so they might decide to open business here. A bad side effects of New Orleans being labeled impoverished or in poverty is that it might hurt tourism and people wanting to visit the city. Also when people think of poverty they associate it with crime. I think being labeled a city in poverty has hurt New Orleans more than it has helped it.
Professional Plans and Xavier’s Mission Statement Saturday, Oct 3 2009
Week Two 11:54 pm
My professional plans include completing four years of college and four years of medical school in order to become a doctor.I don’t know what type of doctor I want to be yet though. Xavier’s mission statement says that Xavier wishes to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. I think Xavier is doing just that. It is preparing me to work hard and learn so that I can help others with my chosen profession. Community service is also part of the mission statement. I think community service is very important because it helps to familerize you with helping others that you usually wouldn’t think to help. Xavier is preparing students to go out into the world and make it a better place to live. Xavier is preparing us to be assets to society.
Leadership Skills Saturday, Oct 3 2009
Week Three 10:38 pm
I think I possess many leadership skills. I do a great job of taking charge and managing many tasks at a time in order to get the desired goal accomplished. I also do a good job of getting other people in the group that I am leading to be motived and finish the task at hand as effectively as possible. I can work well with others and I am patient and understanding. I also like to help others and working in groups or being a group leader is fun beacuse it helps build skills that you need to succeed in life. I also like being a leader because it is rewarding to be able to get different personalities to cooperate because that can be a hard task to do. I think I am a good leader beacuse I am easy to get along with and I respect everyone I work with.
Why I Chose Xavier Saturday, Oct 3 2009
Week One 9:14 pm
I chose to come to Xavier University mainly because of three reasons. The first reason is that it is the best school to help me get into medical school. The second reason is that I wanted to attend a HBCU. The last reason is that Xavier is not too far away from my home and I can go home If I need to. When I was in high school I decided I wanted to become a doctor. When I started researching colleges and universities that would best help me get into medical school, I came across Xavier’s web site and started researching more information on it. When I found out that it places more African Americans into medical school than any other school and that it’s a HBCU I made the decision to attend school here. Also I’m happy I chose Xavier because of its close proximity to my house because I can home often.
