Kathatine Drexel was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States of America, on November 26, 1856. She was the second daugther of Francis Anthony Drexel and Hannah Langstroth. Drexel mother died a month after giving birth to Drexel. Born into a wealthy family, her father is a well known banker and philanthropist. She was taught by her parents that the family wealth was to be shared with other. When Drexel visit Pope Leo XIII in Rome, she was surprise that the pope suggest her to become a missionary. Soon thereafter, she made a decision to do so and with a few companion, she founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for Indians and Colored People. approximately 60 schools were able to opened by her congregation. One of the most famous school that were opened was Xavier University, New Orleans. Xavier was a first catholic institution for Black people in the United States. For the last 18 years of her life she was render immobile because of a illness that she had. She died on March 3, 1955 at the aged of 96 at Cornwell Heights, Pennsylvania.Katharine Drexel was beatified by Pope John Paul on November 20, 1980.
Drexel doing the things that she did was amazing, for a wealthy person to shun all those money and live a life without luxury. Only a few people can do what she did, and devote the rest of their lives to help other people. Becoming a Saint was well deserve, a chance for many younger generations to follow in her footstep. It took her awhile to found her passion but she did and she did alot of good deeds for many people.
