“my favorite mardis gras experience” Monday, Nov 24 2008

well I guess my favorite mardis experience would have to be last year. We came down to New Orleans for a trip and it so happened to fall on the week that they had Mardis Gras festivals going on. So even though we did not get a chance to experience the whole experience of  a New Orleans Mardis we did get a little taste and of what we did get I enjoyed the music, food, floats, costumes, and all the people. I look forward to experiencing the New Orleans Mardis Gras this year in its full effects. I plan to be at every activity and participate in what ever it is they have going on. The Mardis Gras in my home town Alexandria, LA is nothing compared to the New Orleans but I enjoy going to it. Our Mardis Gras is more like a miniature battle of the bands. We have numerous bands to participate and they all go at  it to try and prove that they are the best. Its also a time where all your family and friends get to come together and have a little cook out. We dance and party and just have a family and friends gathering. The actual parade is OK but most of the time it is unorganized and takes for ever and there are usually long gaps following in-between each float making the parade long, drawn out ,and boring. Like I mentioned before the bands are the only thing that everybody looks forward to at the Mardis Gras parade in my home town.

“Do you think Kathrine Drexel would be happy with Xavier today? why or why not? Monday, Nov 24 2008

Yes I think that Katherine Drexel would be happy with Xavier today. Katherine Drexel was a very dedicated person. She decided to help people of the other race by donating money and her time. Xavier basically follows in the same foot step of her. They train us to be very dedicated to our work ,and they train us to giveby volunteering our time. Xavier has built a good name with the academic standard they have produced by being number one in placing African Americansinto Medical school and just being a well known academic school period. We have also built a name for us in our community by volunteering to help clean our neighborhoods up, raising money, can food drives, donating toys for Christmas, tutoring sessions, and just by giving our time anyway that can be useful. We also do activities around campus to help promete different things and by helping out our fellow students. So yes, I think that Katherine Drexel would have every reason to be happy and proud of us because we have continued to follow her legacy and keep the good name that Xavier University built up.

What is my favorite class at Xavier and why? Friday, Oct 24 2008

My favorite class at Xavier will have to be my biology Lecture and lab class. even though it is my hardest class and it takes all of my time to study and comprehend it is very intresting. When we first start to dicuss the modules I am confused and it all sounds like a foreign language, but once It is broken down and I understand it I start to realizes how it relates to the many things that we do everyday or even use. To do an experiment in lab on what we are talking about in lab alse makes it more understanable because you get the hands on and visual effect making the lecture more exciting. In high school I also loved biology but it was just a general idea of biology, but in college we go much more indepth and learn much more then the basic high school biology. This is also an important class because this will help me in my career and I will have to know what all these aspects of biology. It is for my best intrest if the thing that I have to deal with for my career be my favorite class.

” How has poverty benefited New Orleans? How has it hurt New Orleans?” Friday, Oct 24 2008

Poverty has benefited New Orleans because it has perserved the history of New Orleans in a way. The older worn down houses and neighborhoods have so much meaning behind it and have been there through generation after generation. The people who live in poverty can also tell many stories and give the history of their people because they have been living there almost all their lives. On another note poverty is not always thought of as good. Poverty hurts New Orleans because people born in poverty generally stay their for the rest of their lives. They recieve poor or few eduacation so that means they can not better themeselves to get out of porverty. When you have very little to zero amounts education and do not have any dreams or goals to conquer you find thing to keep you busy or help you make ends  meet and that is where the high rate of babies come and all the drug dealing. I really do not know what some poeples meaning povetry but when I think of poverty I think of run down houses and people with very little eduacation receiving federal or state benefits with a bunch of children running around. I have never really seen poverty or really know what it is so I guess can you can say im just steroe typing from what I have heard and seen on television and other people.

Who do you think would make a good political leader and why? Friday, Oct 24 2008

To be honest I do not really keep up with the political stands. I can tell you that I am voting for Obama though. I am basically voting for him because my parents are. My dad is real into to politics so I know he would not vote for something that is not worth voting for. The other reason I am voting for him is because he is a Democrat and that is what I am. Why? Again because my parents are Democrats. I guess I should read up on each candidate’s political views before election on November 4 so that I can know a little about what I am voting for. I have been listening to a few people talking about the election and the nominees and I have noticed that many people seem to think that McCain and Palin do not know much about the economy and how to fix the issue at hand; so I do know that I do not want to have anybody as my leader who does not know to fix the most critical issue our country is facing to day. Again this is something that I am going to have to read up on my self so that I can know the facts and not have to go off of what somebody else interpreted or even their opinions.

What are my Professional plans and how does Xavier ‘s mission affect that? Thursday, Sep 25 2008

My Professional plans are do something in the field of Pharmacy. I do not want to be an over the counter Pharmacist, but I am not quit sure what it is that I want to do exactly in that field yet. Xavier’s mission affect this because no matter what it is I decide to do I will have a outstanding leadership role to help oversee others when needed and play a big role in my society because I will help the people with providing them with there medicines so that may live a healthier life and not provide them with medicines that would be harmful to their health. That will come from the pluralistic teaching and learning environment here at Xavier University. The community services offered her at Xavier will help to instill hard work and dedication which is always a good characteristic in any profession one chooses.

Why did I choose to come to Xavier/ Thursday, Sep 18 2008

One of the many reasons I decieded to come to Xavier University is because I want my career to be something in the field of Pharmacy, and when you mention going to Xavier and planning on majoring in Pharmacy you recieve great comments. As everyone here knows already Xavier is looked highly of for producing African Americans Doctors ,but also for their oustanding Pharmacy Program. The other reason that pushed me to focus on coming here was the fact that it is a small enivoriment school, so getting that one-on-one from my teacher or finding help from someone if I need help with something in class would not be a problem. I did not think I was ready to go to a big enviroment school,as my friends, and walk in class with 200 other people in there ; where  a teacher has to take a picture of each row everyday in order to see who is absent and present. Another reason that made me focus on coming here was because it was something different from where the others in my graduating class was thinking about going. I love my friends and graduating class dearly, we had awesome times together, but I felt I wanted to explore and wonder off and see something different instead of following the pack and going to one of the bigger universities where it would be almost like being back in high school again seeing all familiar faces. Basically, meeting new people and personalities was also major brownie points for me.
