My favorite class at  Xavier is English . English is the only subject where all the explaining is expressed through your writing . In biology and math every is being lectured and explanations is all you hear . English is where I can express my opinion and  support it and  get credit for it .

I think thats English and other writing classes help to change the path of learning . Unlike robotic listening and spitting it back it out . English is our thoughts on issues .

Every city in America has its poor and rich , but i think  that is what makes the city . I think poverty in New Orleans has made it  a  interesting city . The setting in New Orleans is very historical than most cities . Poverty I belive has helped to preserve the  historical events ;such as jazz . On any street in downtown New Orleans there are jazz players . New Orleans is a place where culture is based on the people and what they enjoy . Unlike other cities where it’s determined by whats popular or in .

I think thatObama’s' father would be very happy to see the effect he has on his life through the book .Though he might be hurt by Barack’s disappointment in him . He might be interested in how his grandparents remembered him. Knowing that he did have good memories for his son would make him feel proud . Obama’s dad should feel accomplished that he had a influence in his son’s life .

Saint Drexel would be very proud of where the school is now .Most of every goal that she has set is being reached . and even some goals that where not expected became true .  Like now Xavier is number one for putting blacks into med and pharmacy school . Ms. Drexel has made a school where blacks can make a good career in the medical field and still attend a HBCU . Also a uncommon one . Xavier is very diverse for a HBCU.

In the mission statement its says how the school should be fit to support and help the community .This advice has been taken very seeriuosly . Now every xaverite must complete a certain amount of voulenteer work in order to graduate . If Dr. Drexel was to  see how Xavier is ran and the education being provided she would be very proud.

When i was growing up I only viewed teachers as secondary parents . It wasnt until high school that i realized what a teachers job really is . My junior year specificly ,  meet my favorite teacher .Mr. Broome who was the advanced placment teacher for english . His calss was very differnent from others high school classes . We learned in aspects that histortians did. He had a great influence in my life . The greastest gift he gave was the ability to write on historical literaute. 

Most of the work we read were from older monarcy and some famous authors. We learned how to take a essay and look beyond the boring words , to see what they were actually tring to say . That was the intresting part . The best stories and drama is written in highly devopled essay or works of literaute. The biggest factor was being ablr to respond these works .

Mr. Broome had the class writing essays, poems, and even short storys. For the final we had to recite some famous poetry .But most of all Mr. Broome taught me how to be mentally prepared for all types of writing .

Everyone posses different type of charcterticis , but i belive my best is leadership . Leadership can come in many different aspects even those who may follow takes leadership to resign power. My leadership skills included , generosity ,and understanding . Some leadership takes patience , and knowing how to work out things .

For example my best leadership skill is understanding . When i was on the dance team, as a captsin it took alot of understanding to work with a team of about 17 girls . Knowing when to make them work harder or give a break took understanding and even streghth to kno how to give orders before and after .Leadership means stepping up when no one else will , but still knowing when to step down .

Genorsity takes lots of   leadership . Espeacailly in a college . Peolpe can be rude and have smart comments for no resaon . I belive a leadership quality i have is knowing when to be quiet , and be generious to people . Generosity is a quality that will  go very far , definetly in the professinal world .

Overall i belive my quality can help follwers inspire to be leaders . and leaders learn how to follow . My leadership qualitys generosity and understanding , can help to complete that  task .

 

the effect of xavier’s mission Sunday, Oct 11 2009

As a Xavier biology major I plan to go into the medical field . I would like to particularly  become a nurse  partitioner .  Xavier has a great reputation for its sciences and medicine especially . Xavier mission is to provide a diverse or well rounded education . In biology it is not required that other subjects .This goal that Xavier has will affect my education by adding classes that are not  required but I will belive will help my career aspect as a whole.

Most biology students only deal with strictly biology all of their years in college . which can be a good thing , because  that is what is mainly needed to become a doctor . But as a Xaverite there mission  statement requires classes in all other subjects such as english , math , history, and even reglion . I belive this will  help to boost my career , because it will help me to be a well rounder doctor .Knowing the history of certain illnesses could help to daigonis a patient . Or even using high levels of math to measure the amount of medicine needed. Learning different classes also  gives me options to change my major if I want, and helps me to get into medical school .

For example , the new employers for the medical field say they like well rounded doctors . In a recent article for New york times doctors commented on students taking chances and majoring in things like art ad english but still taking medical required classes . This they say gives the hospital a diverse and well rounded  enviroment .So i belive that the overall goal of Xavier’s mission statement is helpful to my major , the overall effects are much needed.

 

Why I choose Xavier Wednesday, Sep 23 2009

In high school I never had any intentions to attend Xavier ;or even a HBCU for that matter . Division one schools have always been my focus , until i started deciding on a major . Once i came to a conclusion that it was going to be in science I started asking around . My physics teacher had told me about Xavier , and how they were know for there sciences . I had never even heard of the school until he brought it to my attention. He told me about the New Orleans scenery , and the great reputation Xavier held. So i did a little research on some things .

I am a very active person in school, its a way to help me balance fun and work , helping me keep my sanity . Some of the things I did were cheer leading, dance ,and science clubs. Xavier offered all of these and more . When i was doing research on Xavier I gained a interest in how the school got started . I am not a catholic but I do like how the school is based upon religion not just academic . Xavier included diversity in pretty much every thing . Thats was very important to me . Most importantly the city of New Orleans . New O rleans has great food , site seeing and very very interesting people .

Overall I choose Xavier because it offers the uncommon compared to other HBCU ‘s. It offers diversity , academic support . It has a great reputation for pharmacy and science majors in general. It was the perfect choice for my higher education .
