Send Email to your favorite teacher at Xavier thanking them for their work. Sunday, Nov 29 2009

Dear Ms. Roche,
I would like to thank you for all the help and guidance you have given me in the last year. I really appreciate the time you have spent helping me with assignments, keeping me on track with my absences, and making sure I am taking the proper courses. I know I have had a few melt downs in your office because of things with my mother and my health, but I just want to thank you for being so understanding. I appreciate you listening, and being there for me. I really enjoy your class so much, and I truly feel like I am learning a lot and that this course is laying down the foundation to my career. I hope that even if I am not in your class that you will continue to offer your guidance and advise.

Sincerely,
Khalia Brewer

Interview a Xavier Senior about his/her thoughts on Xavier’s Mission Sunday, Nov 29 2009

I interviewed Nicole Smith

” I have not really given much thought to Xavier’s missions and how I should incorporate it into my professional plans until maybe my junior year when I realized that I was almost finished with school. I mean we are introduced to Xavier’s mission as early as our freshman year, but I do not think since I have been a student here that I actually live by their mission. But now that I am leaving soon I do feel like Xavier has completed its mission by making me a well-rounded student and a leader because Xavier has a diverse learning environment. “

Do Some Research on Katherine Drexel. Do you think she would be happy with Xavier Today why or why not? Sunday, Nov 29 2009

Katherine Drexel grew up wealthy and priviledge, but that did not stop her from wanting to help those of minority. It is said that she was convinced that shring faith, and quality education were key to empowerment. I think katherine Drexel would be happy with Xavier as far as them continuing to carrying out her mission for Xavier. She would be happy because the mission she started in the early 1900′s is in many ways identical to the current mission statement. Katherine Drexel was dedicated and now Xavier is dedicated to producing graduates who are leaders in society, government, and in the church.

How has Poverty benefited New Orleans and how has it hurt the N.O? Monday, Oct 12 2009

To be honest I do not think poverty  has benefited New Orleans, nor do I think it can benifit anywhere else for that matter. The sad thing is that the majority of the people in the United States and I am sure in every other country live below the poverty line. People starving, no place to live and living without medical care cannot possibly be a benefit. I also do not think the actual city of New Orleans is hurt by poverty, but the people of New Orleans sure are hurt by the impact of poverty. Having people live under a bridge or on a bus bench is hurtful to a person not a city. Having nothing to eat and having to dig thru garbage for your next meal also does not hurt a city it hurts the people. Having no way to support your family is devastating, but i am confused how that hurts a city?

What is your favorite class @ Xavier and Why? Monday, Oct 12 2009

My favorite class at Xavier is my accounting courses. I love them because it gives me insight about what I will be doing in my field in the near future. I like my instuctor Dr. Roche and she is always available in her office for me to ask questions. This class enabled me to work in the finance department at a company called After School Matters in Chicago. I had a great summer internship there. Because I had worked with journal entires and balance sheets and much more in class, I did not look as lost as i would have had i not taking this course.

What Type Of Leadership skills do you Posess? Friday, Sep 18 2009

One of the leadership skills I posess is getting and giving information. I think I can communicate effectively and I think I can exchange info effectively and accurately mostly because I take notes and repeat back what I think I heard the person say. Another leadership skill I posess is that I greet new ideas openly and with lots of interest. I am empathic and I am understanding of my groups needs and their characteristics. I have the ability to plan well and problem solve ( usually not my own problems), and come up with alternative methods for determining a solution ( again usually not with my own problems). But I think my number one leadership skill I posess is that I can share that role of a leader, without egos and distrust getting in the way. If someone is coming up with just as many great ideas as me, who problem solves, and communicates as well as me I do not see why I should not share the role.

What are your professional plans and how does Xavier’s Mission affect that? Saturday, Sep 5 2009

My professional plans are really long term, but if I stick with the plan and continue to stay focus, and stay on track I think I can achieve everything on my list. To be honest I am not sure how the Xavier’s Mission fits into my plan and I don’t think I really care as long as i am successful and enjoying what I am doing that is all that mstters to me. My professional plans are, to finish getting my accounting degree at Xavier, then hopefully get into a great grad school so I can get my M.B.A and my Macc. Once I finish grad school I will take and pass my C.P.A exam (Certified Public Account). After I get my C.P.A license most likely I will work in the corporate world for about fice or six years to pay of student loans and grants, and Save money away. Once I am financially stable I want to go to culinary arts school, and open either my own catering business or restuarant. Because of my extensive education in accounting and other aspects of business I can continue to keep my business afloat and successful. Thus achieving my utimate goal, making my own work hours for the rest of my life.

Why Did I Choose to Attend Xavier? Saturday, Sep 5 2009

I chose to attend Xavier for several reasons. For one, I love the size of Xavier. I can get from end to the other ( barn to Xavier South) in ten minutes.  My classroom size is also small, it is probably between twenty-five to thirty students in my classes. My teachers actually know my name and I am not some number on the attendance. Secondly. I love New Orleans, it is a great city. My family and I visit New Orleans almost every summer before we head to Mississippi for our family reunion. The last reason I chose Xavier was because the other schools I had applied to were big states schools, and  known for partying. Like I mention before I was looking for a campus that was small and I did not want partying to distract me. Xavier is to expensive to just play around in.
