Thank you Dr. Homan for making Freshman Seminar a very interesting experience to say the least. There was never a dull moment in our section. You always had something to entertain us whether a it was a joke about the week or about the school or about someone (we’re not gonna say any names lol) but it was definately enjoyable. I hope you have a great holiday season and an even better spring semester. keep in touch

Many seniors do not know what the mission statement says let only have thoughts about it. I believe many students really dont even read it. The couple that did just said that they believe that students are getting great educations so they can go on and have great professional careers. Mosrt had no comments what so ever but that was the just of it.

I believe she would be very proud. Xavier is by far one of the best Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the nation. It has the highest graduation rate for blacks in the nation, and is constantly getting students into great professional schools. Yes her main goal was to educate blacks and native americans which is getting done, and if i may add getting done very well. I alsom believe she would be pleased with the faculty and the administration for having the zeal that they do for helping the students do so well and having the students best intereast at heart.

Barack Obama’s father opinion on the book Monday, Oct 12 2009

I think that President Obama’s father would really enjoy the book because Barack  holds nothing back. He ” tells it like it is” and gives people incite on just how America really is. Racism has always been a part of our nation and although many believe it does not exist anymore let me tell you it is alive and still deeply rooted in people today. Where ever you go it is still very evident maybe not in New Orleans as in other areas of Louisiana, but there is still the holding back of races based on skin color and nationality. President Obama hits most of these issues on point in this book and helps people to see just how hard it is for a black man in America trying to come up. His father would be very proud of him,m I am very proud on him, and this is definately one of the best books I have read.

My favorite class at Xavier is Freshman Seminar because Dr. Homan always seems to keep us entertined with something. He understands how busy we are with other classes so he does not stress us about the work for this none credit class. He just lets us know when everything has to be done by and lets us go from there. All the other Semi9nar classes have to do all these different book reports and write all these different papers that causes alot of stress on them with their other school work, but Dr. Homan is a laid back cool guy who just goes with the flow. Xavier needs more teachers like Dr. Homan because those types of teachers would be very good with the students.

 

How has poverty bebfited New Orleans Monday, Oct 12 2009

Poverty has benefited New Orleans because it has gotten and continues to get much federal aid from the government to better its conditions. It just so happens that the federal aid that we do get is not being spent in or on the city because of the leadership we have running the city and not to mention a mayor who doesnt even care about us. It has hurt us because no body really once to come to the city and we have hundreds of people jobless and living under the bridge. It sucks how places are closing down left and right, but that is a result of the economy of the city. not enough money is being pumped in to keep the city goin therefore buisness close down and people lose there jobs. This is also why the crime rate is as high as it is because without a source of income people must still and kill to get the things they need.

 

Leadership Skills Wednesday, Sep 30 2009

I have a unique set of leadership skills. I am able to listen to others opinions an incorporate them in to solutions to make everyone happy. I am able to except criticism so that I may better myself. I have all the intangables to be a solid leader except one. That one is courage. Sometimes courage alludes me and causes me to act cowardly, but i am currently working to better this trait.I believe that once i have completed this, I will be a young whipper snapper. My family has always told me we are a family of leaders, so we should set the trend instead of following a certain mold. I agree and most of the time I stand with my own opinion, even if that opininon causes me to stand alone. I hope to carry and better this traits on this long college journey to greatness. I will be a great leader to my peers.

 

Professional plans and xavier’s mission Wednesday, Sep 30 2009

My professional plan once i graduate is to become a pediatrician. This has always been my dream since I was younger and I will give it my all to achieve it. I know I must set short-term goals to reach this ultimate dream. Some of those short term goals are graduating Xavier with at least a 3.8 GPA, getting into and receiving scholarships to John Hopkins or Florida State Medical schools, and of course passing Med school to be a Pediatrician. Xavier’s mission affects this because they have to prepare  me so that I may continue this early success further down the road. Xavier must mold me mentally, physically, and spiritually to me a man of the future, and a role models for the kids that will watch me as the grow and mature.I have faith in both Xavier and myself that we will achieve our goals and be successful. This gives me high hopes and has me looking toward the future enthusiastically.

 

Why did I come to Xavier Wednesday, Sep 30 2009

 I came to Xavier because it specializes in healthcare professions and I want to become a doctor when I get older. Xavier has always been one of my top choices because my parents graduated from here and have always sort of pushed it on me. I am excited to be at  xavier and i believe it can mold into a better man of today and a great doctor in the future. Xavier has an outstanding track record and tradition of helping minorities get into medical and Pharmacy school. This is what drew me to the school and will help me to achieve the things that I want while im there.So in conclusion Xavier’s track record and my parents insite were the things that help me decide to make Xavier my college home.It made a huge impact on me during the summer, and continues to influence me as the days go by. It is truely a wonderful school.
