What would Barack Obama’s father think of his book? Friday, Oct 9 2009
Miscellaneous 5:30 pm
If Barack Obama’s father was alive today to see what his son had accomplished, I think that he would be very happy. Even though his son may have written some things about him in his book, that he would not appreciate hearing. I believe that he would understand, because his son only wrote about what he knew about his father. Instead I would think Barack’s father would be more interested about reading the book to find out how his son life was without him and how he became the first African American President of the United States of America.
My favorite class at Xavier, and why? Friday, Oct 9 2009
Week Five 4:49 pm
“My favorite class at Xavier, and why?”. I would have to say that my favorite class would have to be Biology 1230. My professor is Dr. Labat, I was very fortunate to receive her as my instructor. I have heard wonderful things about her from many of the upper classmen, who took her in a previous semester. They all told me that she was a great teacher and her class tends to do better than other classes on test. Unfortunetly, I cannot attest that so far about doing good on test , but I still believe that I could not ask for a better teacher than Dr. Labat to start my journey at Xavier. It has been a joy just being in her class for the last couple of weeks. If you know me you would definetly understand where I am coming from, because in high school I hated anything dealing with science. So for me to be saying that Biology is my favorite class is kind of unbelieveable. So after sitting in her class for a few weeks listening to her preach she has one me over. I have gained more interest for Biology as well as knowledge and understanding.
Has poverty benefited New Orleans or has it hurt New Orleans? Friday, Oct 9 2009
Week Four 4:46 pm
Although New Orleans has a high population of poverty strickin people. I do not believe that poverty has hurt New Orleans in any shape or form. Instead, I believe that poverty has been a benefit for New Orleans considering its economic circumstances after hurricane Katrina. Poverty has been a benefit to New Orleans in many ways: the media attention it brings, the job opportunities, the business opportunities, as well as the revenue it brings in from tourist who visit here. The media attention poverty brings helps remind people of the devastation we went through as well as keeping people informed about our recovery. On the other hand it also brings in lots of job opportunities, if it is not construction to the medical field. It also created opportunities for small business owners as well as beginning entrepeneurs to expand. Overall poverty is a problem and is something not only in New Orleans, but in the world that needs to be solved, but from an economic stand point New Orleans has benefited tremendously from.
Leadership skills I possess… Friday, Oct 9 2009
Week Three 4:37 pm
I portray many characteristics of a leader. I am very responsible, trustworthy, understanding, respectful, and very open minded to peoples opinions.Through out my life I have held many leadership positions if it was not in my church, around school, or around my neighborhood. For example, I participated in church fundraisers, retreats, and community service activities. I also held the position of Vice President of my schools (SGA) Student Government Assocation. Where I helped many students with problems or any comments or concerns they had about the school. In addition to leadership positions, I also volunteered my time around my neighborhood as the community service coordinator. Which involves helping my neighbors, with keeping up with their gardens and maintence around their houses as wells as keeping our neighborhood entrance trash free. So if your looking for someone who possess leadership skills call Jimmie!
My professional plans and how does Xavier’s mission affect it… Tuesday, Oct 6 2009
Miscellaneous and Week Two 4:55 pm
As of now Im just here to be the best student I possibly can, make the best of my college experience, and last but not least graduate with a bachelors degree in Mass Comminications. How does Xavier’s mission coincide with my professional plans? Xavier’s mission is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. Xavier’s mission has alot to do with my professional plans. Its mission insures that before I leave this university I will be a leader. Not only a leader but someone who is prepared to contribute something back and able to promote a more just humane society.
Choosing to attend Xavier University of Louisiana… Tuesday, Oct 6 2009
Week One 3:40 pm
Xavier University of Louisiana, was never on my list of colleges to attend. It just all came together with in the last few months of my senior year. I attended a college tour one week with my high school and Xavier was one of the colleges we visited. I feel in love with the small campus, small classes, and my all time favorite its ratio between men and women, which is 17:1. There after, It was all up to me to make a decision about what college I wanted to attend in the fall. If I only knew that Xavier was the place for me to be in the first place I would have applied. Instead, all I could think about was attending college away from home. I was so determined to go away for college that I overlooked Xavier a school with history and a legacy that continues to grow everyday. Thats why I am so glad that I chose to attend Xavier University of Louisiana.
