Thanks, She-Hammer! Wednesday, Dec 2 2009

Dear Dr. Elizabeth Yost-Hammer,

I would like to thak you for making my first semester of psychology so enjoyable. You make psychology easier to understand and your teaching style is very entertaining. You come to class with a smile on your face, and every student can tell that you are passionate about the subject. This passion makes a student like me want to learn more. Of course I had to secure a spot in your class next semester, so I look forward to seeing you in class again in 2010!

Kd Proud? Wednesday, Dec 2 2009

I think that Katherine Drexel is very proud of what Xavier has become. Her mission is being fulfilled everyday. Students attend this university to pursue their goals and make it to graduate and professional schools. There is nothing that Katherine Drexel would not be proud of at this school. African Americans are becoming more and more educated at this school thanks to her. This school is producing future successful leaders and I know that Katherine Drexel would be proud of this fact.

Father Proud? Wednesday, Dec 2 2009

I think that Barack Obama’s father would be proud of the book. Obama was very honest in his book and he did not hesitate to tell everything. Even though his father was kind of portrayed in a bad light, I do not think that it would make him unproud of the book. He may not agree with the way that he was portrayed, but he was still proud of the honesty of his son. I am sure that Obama’s father would be less proud if the book danced around the truth.

St. Katherine Drexel Proud? Sunday, Oct 4 2009

I think that St. Katherine Drexel would definitely be  proud of Xavier today. Xavier has made so many accomplishments and has produced so many successful people. Xavier has a great Pre Med and business program and a wonderful pharmacy school. Many successful people have come out of Xavier University, so, in my opinion, St. Katherine Drexel would not be anything but proud of what she has started.

Mardi Gras Sunday, Oct 4 2009

I have never experienced Mardi Gras in New Orleans, so I do not really have a favorite event. The most that I have ever done for Mardi Gras is wear the green, gold, and purple beads, and eat King Cake. So, this year will be my first experience of the real thing and I am pretty excited to see what happens.

My Fave Class Sunday, Oct 4 2009

My favorite class at Xavier is my Intro Psych class. Psychology is my major and it interests me. I am interested in the mind, how it works, why it works, etc. So far, psychology has been fun and I have learned a lot, but I know that it’s only going to get harder and we may cover some things that I’m really not interested in. For now, I am enjoying psychology and hopefully I’ll keep an A in that class or else it won’t be my favorite anymore :) .

Leadership Skills Sunday, Oct 4 2009

I believe that I have some of the characteristics of a leader. When it comes down to it, I can get a job done. I do not like to waste time and I try to stay on task for the most part. I know when to have fun and I know when to be serious. I am not really a quiet person, so if I need to draw a crowd, I will not have much trouble. I like to believe that people are sometimes drawn to me…for good reasons.

My Professional Plans and Xavier’s Mission Sunday, Oct 4 2009

I am a Psychology- Pre Med major, and I plan to become a doctor in the field of neuroscience. According to Xavier’s plan, students will be prepared for a global society. They will also be educated sufficiently in their major field of study, allowing them to complete graduate/ professional school and pursue a career. I believe that I will fulfill Xavier’s mission by graduating from Xavier University, attending the medical school of my choice, and leading a spiritually healthy and successful life as a doctor.

Why Did I Choose Xavier? Friday, Oct 2 2009

Xavier University was not my first choice, but it was one of my top choices. When I visited Xavier, I realized that it would be a good fit for me based on the size and curriculum of the university. I want to go to medical school and i knew that I needed a school with structure to reach my goal. As we all know, Xavier is number one for placing African Americans in medical school, so it was hard for me to pass the opportunity up. Xavier is also a historically black university which attracted me. I come from a majority caucasian school, so I wanted to experience a HBCU.

Basically, I chose Xavier for its Pre Med program, its structure, and the fact that it is a HBCU.
