I interviewed Michael Etienne, he is a chemistry pre pharmacy major, and he was more than happy to answer my series of questions. He didn’t know the mission statement word for word (neither did I) but he was familiar with the main idea. After talking with him for a few minutes, his thoughts on the mission was for students to achieve more than any other college, to help people to understand what their goal is in means of seeing Xavier as more than an HBCU that helps not just african americans but minorities in general to be successful. As far as community service, its a good way to allow students to see how life can be after college. He likes Xavier and if more students would abide by the mission statement things would go smoother, not just by failing people because they are five cents below the tuition. I agreed with most of his responses especially tuition, but as he said if more people paid attention to the mission statement, their would be a drastic change on campus. As I think about it more, he was the only upperclassmen who was really familiar with the mission. A lot of students I questioned, didn’t really pay attention to the mission because of its length.
When people die…. Sunday, Mar 1 2009
Miscellaneous 9:49 pm
What happens when a person dies all depends on your beliefs whether religious or moral. For catholics or baptists, when a person dies they experience two things: a physical death and spiritual freedom. Physical death consists of the body not moving, not breathing, etc. The body is then buried or creamated over time the body deteriorates to dust, ” for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Spiritual freedom consists of what happens after physical death. The ‘soul’ is released from the body and lives on, depending on your lifestyle this will tell if you go to heaven or hell for all eternity. If your religious beliefs does not believe in a heaven or hell, where the soul goes may vary. I found it interesting to know that one culture believes in reincarnation and depending on your previous lifestyle will telll in what you will be reincarnated in, if you were good you could be a successful person in your next life, however if you were bad you could lead a short life the next time around.
Heaven Sunday, Mar 1 2009
Week Two 9:16 pm
Yes I believe in heaven, I’m a cachtist, lol (baptist and catholic) with both religions, they instill the beliefs of heaven. Both religions tell of the Garden of Eden and belief in the holy throne, where God governs the universe. I personally think that heaven is a place of eternal peace and a place where you could be careless and free. It’s a nice thought to know that when you die or your family dies, there is always somewhere you could meet and be together again. Not many people believe that, especially with the various religions in the United States, all are together trying to convert each other that their religion is the right religion, and then there are athias believers. Ideas of heaven do play apart in society. Moral values especially plays a major role. Some people base their family life on morals that they’re taught in church. If people or individuals want to make it to heaven they read the Bible, or perform good deeds as a pass. Many people believe that if you’ve performed so many good deeds and was baptised of original sin (catholics & baptists) they automatically so to heaven. With these thoughts in mind people try to mold their lifestyle to what they think is appropriate.

Funeral Memories Sunday, Mar 1 2009
Week One 2:48 pm
The most memorable funeral I’ve attended was my aunt Lorraine Manuel’s funeral. My aunt was the oldest of twelve children and had very close relationships with her brothers and sisters. She was a respectable woman and well known at the grade school she teached at in Chicago, Illinois. By joining the Delta sorority sisterhood while in college it made her more well rounded and added to her wonderful personality. When she passed away a couple of years ago from pancreatic cancer it shocked us all. My mom and godmother were the closest friends she had. Growing up as the three oldest sisters they were always together, especially when my aunt went off to college, they always kept in touch. The last time we spoke to my aunt was the christmas the year before her death. She was so happy, the last thing we all did together was toast to health, long life, and prosperity. My mom showed me all of the pictures of my aunt up until a week before her passing. She lost so much weight, her body was so thin, and her face was ghostly thin, it was horrible. When she passed, she was at peace. My mom and godmother took it the hardest when they saw her casket. It got so bad that they both passed out at the same time and they are not small women!!!! Realization set in at the repass, we were all remembering the fun we had and good times we used to have. I guess that’s all that really mattered.
