Email a teacher Tuesday, Dec 8 2009

Dear Ms Jones,

I personally don’t like when people suck up to teachers but coming across a good teacher is rare. I personally think that you are the best teacher that I have had, especially teaching the subject of Math. I can understand the work and comprehend the concepts rather than just doing the work and turning it in. I appreciate the time you sit and make sure that we understand as a whole and if not, encourage us to ask questions. Even when talking about topics other than math, you won’t sugar coat anything and I think you prepare me and the rest of my class even mor for the real world. Thank you

St Katharine’s Dream Tuesday, Dec 8 2009

I personally think that if St Katharine could see what her determination turned out to be, I don’t think that words could express her feelings. I think that she would be proud and happy to see her dream being fulfilled in the younger generations in America. Especially being an HBCU, she would be extremely proud that African American want to succeed in life by first starting off taking the initiative to persue higher education. If she saw the progress now, I highly think she will be disappointed

What would Barack Obama’s father think of his book? Saturday, Oct 24 2009

I think Barack Obama’s father would be ashamed in the way he let the world know how his father was actually portrayed in his life. His father would not only be ashamed, but he would also be embarrassed at all the things Obama is letting the world know all the things that happened in the dark and now they are coming to light. Behind all this shame and embarrassment, there is a very proud father on the inside. I think that the main reason he would be proud is because not only is he the president of the United States, but he went through his trails and tribulations and in the end came out a strong successful man.

My professional plans Wednesday, Oct 14 2009

Everyone is asked the same question one time or another when they are about to go off to college: What do you plan to do with your major? Im my opinion, I don’t think that anybody actually knows exactly what they want to do with their life because there is so much to do in life. As children, we always had the idea of being a ballerina, a fire fighter, a police officer or a cheerleader to pick as their career. Once reality starts to set in and family talks in our ear, our plans change and all of a sudden everybody wants to become a doctor or a lawyer. My professional plans are to graduate from Xavier and continue to graduate school. Since my major is Psychology and that is a fairly broad career path, for now I would love to be a child counselor, not a school counselor but I want to help children who have been through unusual things and need someone to talk to. I want to start in the United States first and eventually continue my studies overseas.

My leadership skills Wednesday, Oct 14 2009

I have been asked over and over what are my leadership skills.  I feel that I am a very strong African American young woman that has been through trials and tribulations that have not killed me so they must have made me stronger. I feel like I am on this Earth for a reason and God has a plan for me. Because I am strong, that automatically makes me a leader. Its not a state of being cocky or arrogant, but confident and proud of who I am. I fully believe that everyone should speak up for what they feel is right or how they feel, rather than just following the crowd just to fit in. Nothing is worse than looking back on life and wishing you did something different. So in order for me not to do that I live life to the fullest and stand for what I think is right.

Favorite class at Xavier and why? Wednesday, Oct 14 2009

Right now I would say that my favorite class that I am taking at Xavier is my psychology class. Everyday there is something new to learn about and everyday I find something more interesting than the last day I was in the class. I love learing about the human brain and how we think compared to any other animal. Knowing where veins are connected and how they function in unison with the rest of the body amazes me. There is a reason why we do things and realizing that the body all runs on this one organ strikes me as a surprise every class time. Since I have always found the human mind and how it works fascinating, so when I find a subject that holds my attention, I don’t digress and procrastinate on particular assignments. I sit down, pay attention, take notes and prepare myself for the next test. I am determined to love my future job as a Child Psychologist and that is just what I am going to do.

What type of leadership skills do I possess? Wednesday, Oct 14 2009

The type of leadership skills I possess come all the way  from high school. I haven’t always been a leader nor have I been a follower.  I used to just go with the flow and do my work but within the last five or six years my outspoken personality allowed me to come out of my comfort zone. The skill that I am most proud of is the ability to speak my mind and stand up for what’s right or what I feel is right. I won’t stop until my voice is heard or acknowledged. In high school I was involved in AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) and my teacher said that I had the potential to have a leadership position and for me to not be shy all the time. So I went to summer leadership school and eventually all the leadership positions came into place.

Why I chose to come to Xavier Wednesday, Oct 14 2009

The main reason I chose to come to Xavier is because I really was eager to be on my own and get out of my mother’s house. I was very determined to show other people and myself that I could survive by myself. I also was very motivated to get change of scenery and experience the excitement of meeting new people. Since I wasn’t going into the medical field, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to branch out and start over on a clean slate. It was always a dream to go this far from home for such a lang period of time but everyone has to leave the nest eventually. Now that I am on my own and finding the balance between school, schoolwork and other activities, I am satisfied with my decision. I am more than happy I stayed motivated and focused on my goal that I wanted to accomplish.
