I think that Obama’s father would be proud of his son’s book because he expains the trials and tribulations that he had in life from a young child to his adulthood but he does not make it all sad it also uplifting. Because I know he discusses about race but he does not make it downfall he shows that yes I am not white and there is room for me to do what I have to survive in this world. For him to write this book is showing people that yes I had trials and tribulations but I have gotten through them and there is room for everybody in this world no matter what you look like. So his father would be very proud of this book.
My Favorite class at Xavier? Wednesday, Dec 2 2009
Week Five 12:27 am
My favorite class at Xavier would have to be none of them because all of them are giving me an headache and I hate headaches. My math class is worst one of them all. I can barely pass the class it non-stop math work and non-stop quzzies, it is so much but I can say that I am learning so much from this class, I know where I can go and get tutoring when I do not understand something. It also is helping me out on my studying skills towards all the subjects that I am taking.
How has poverty benefited New Orleans? How has it hurt New Orleans? Wednesday, Dec 2 2009
Week Four 12:12 am
Poverty has really hurted New Orleans, as being here I am always hearing about killings and that is very dangerous. The proverty has not been a plus for New Orleans because it has been seen as a tourist site since Hurricane Katrina hit people either come down here to Bourbon or see the houses that where detroyed by it and have not been fixed yet. All you see around in New Orleans is homeless and that is not healthy at all, because for one I know that ther is not enough shelters around to hae these homeless to sleep. So these homeless people are sleeping outside and the weather outside is wet and cold and who wants to sleep in conditions with that. So for this to be a tourist site it is like where is the money going to because I know it is not going to the black community.
Leadership Tuesday, Dec 1 2009
Week Three 11:49 pm
The leadership skills that I posses is by caring myself as an young adult and know that there is a thing called mistakes. As a freshmen in high school I did not carry myslelf as youung lady I was acting as if I was a grown lady and nobody needed to be in my business. An aunt of mine ask me to work for her my tenth grade year to work in her daycare at first I was second guessing it but then I was like this is money and this is something that I need. At first the job was just for money but then I started to learn things from this it showed me how to be mature about things so the kids that are looking up to me will know what is right and what is wrong. As watching the actions I did around them did not reflect only towards them but also out with friends but also my attitude towards school changed dramatically. So the leadership that I posses is watch what you do around kids so they will learn the do’s and dont’s of life so they will become the person they want to become in life.
Dreams of Being a Doctor Sunday, Nov 29 2009
Week Two 5:20 pm
My career goal is to become an OB/GYN. Since the 8th grade that job has been all i think about. My niece was born and that was my main objective. My career goal applies to the mission statement because i would be able to help women. Many women decide not to go to the doctor. I would like to be the type of doctor to help everyone. With ot with-out medical insurance. Thats what Katherine Drexel wanted. Everyone to have the same opportunities. Becoming a doctor will hopefully influence myself to help others and bless them as I will be blessed.
Forced to Xavier Monday, Nov 9 2009
Week One 1:29 am
I chose to come to Xavier because my cousin graduated from Xavier in 2008 and she really wanted me to attend. Before I made my actual decision I looked on the website and saw how it is ranked and how it sends alot of African-Americans to med school. I looked at the campus life and the dorm rooms, I liked what I saw. What made my final decision was Ms. Poplus, my financial aid advisor. She helped me get financial aid. I was given the opportunity to afford going to college. This is why I chose to attend Xavier University.
