Email to your Favorite Teacher Tuesday, Dec 8 2009

My Favorite teacher this semester while attending Xavier was my Biology teacher Ms. Brumfield. She helped me in so many ways that i never thought i can be helped. She helped me to take advantage of all the resources that are offered to a student such as tutoring centers, writing labs, biolgy lab, etc. She made me feel as if I could never fail even when I thought there was no way possible to pass. I would just like to thank her in many different ways that you can thank someone. I would also like to tell her that if it was not for her i would probably not believe in myself  the way i do today

Xavier Senior Opinion on Mission Statement Tuesday, Dec 8 2009

When i interviewed a Xavier senior about the mission statement the things that were said were straight forward. Basically she said that the mission statement was very important and that if you carry it with you throughout your years attending Xavier you would probably do better than what you think you can do. She also stated that it took her a while to learn what the mission statement meant, but when she learned what it meant she has been carrying it with her throughout her years of attendance.

Do some research on Katherine Drexel. Do you think she would be happy with Xavier today? Why or why not? Thursday, Dec 3 2009

Me personally i do not think that St. Katherine drexel will be happy with Xavier today. Especially the freshmans. Some of them do not really take this college serious and still have a lot of growing up to do. I can also say that i still need to learn more. I wasnt as pleased with my grades first semester along with many other students and i dont think she would be proud of this. There are also students who i dont think represent Xavier in a good way.

What would Barack Obama’s father think of the book? Thursday, Oct 8 2009

I believe that Barack Obama father would be highly proud of the book. Although there were some details about him that wasnt good in the book about him it still was an overall good book. Not only that his father would look at all the things that he had to go through to get to the point where he is today. Also I believe that his father would look at him as a role model to others because of the fact that he did a lot of things to get to where he is today. Although everything he did was not perfect he still remained a positive attitude and did not give up in life and now he is the successful president of our country today. His father should be very proud of him.

What is your favorite class at Xavier and why? Thursday, Oct 8 2009

I Can say that my favorite class at Xavier University is my Biology lecture class. I say this because my biolgy teacher who is Ms. Brumfiled makes learing fun. Im not saying that this is the class that i am passing but it is the class that I enjoy the most. On the other hand, i have others classes that are fun but this is the most enjoying of them all. I also have classes that are not fun at all. The students totally disrespect the teacher and it is very hard to learn in this particular class. But not in Ms. Brumfiled class, she takes learning very serioulsy and refuse to let any students disrespect her in any way. I can honestly say that i leave her class with new information every time we meet. Not saying that i understand all information but she tries to make sure we have a clear understanding. Also there are all sorts of other alternatives if we dnt understand whats going on in class such as the tutoring center that is available and open to everyone at all times free of charge.

How has poverty benefited New Orleans? How has it hurt New Orleans? Thursday, Oct 8 2009

Poverty has benefited and hurted many differnt places throughout the world. Poverty has benefited New Orleans in many different ways. One of those ways that it benefited New Orleans was by making humans realize how hard life could be and that spending money on unneccessary things could hurt you. So i believe that it gave a wakeup call to a lot of people showing them the more important things in life. Poverty has hurt New Orleans as well. Povert has increase the risk of homelessness in New Orleans. I believe that the inrease of drug abuse has also been associated with poverty. Every year nearly 11 million children living in poverty die before thyeir fifth birthday. Also 51% of fifth graders in New Orleans have been found to be victims of violence. If New Orleans continue to live in Poverty I believe the death rate wilol increase as well as the crime rate.

What type of leadership skills to you posess? Thursday, Oct 8 2009

I believe that I posess many different leadership skills. Throughout life i have always been taught to be a leader and not a follower. Me personally I hate to follow other people. I have a mind of my own and i use it very well. The most important leadership skills that I posess the most is to be very respectful and to treat others as you would want to be treated. I have seen and heard many different situations where people are very rude and disrespectful towards adults and other people. I have always been taught that your days are numbered when you direspect other people. This is why you haved to look at certain situations before you speak and ask yourself is this the way you would want to be treated. I also believe that i show great leadership skills by always thinking positive. There are some things or situations that can be really bad but i always think positive on them. I believe that positive attitudes can take you a long way, negative will not.

What are your professional plans and how does Xavier’s mission affect that? Saturday, Sep 5 2009

My professional plans is actually very straight forward. For many years my professional plans have always been to attend a four year university, major in biology premed, graduate, and then attend medical school. My plans are still mainly the same except i am having second thought about attending medical school after i graduate. ive always wanted to attend medical school so that i can become a pediatrician and own my own doctors office but for some reason i am having second thoughts. Now i am considering to go to graduate school after i graduate. I’m not saying thats what i want to do for sure but it is an possibility. Xavier mission fits my professional plans in many ways. I know by attending Xavier it is a strong possibility that my idea go as planned not only because its the best instituion for my career but because its been my dream school since a little girl.

Why I Choose Xavier? Saturday, Sep 5 2009

There are several reasons why I choose to attend Xavier University. Xavier has been my number one school since I was a little girl. I’ve always wanted to attend Xavier not only because it’s number one into placing African Americans into medical school but also because its majority black and it’s also close to home. My mother has played a major role in me attending Xavier as well. She believes XULA is the perfect place for me to receive an education. Although XULA is only about an hour away from home my mother feels as if it’s the right place to experience college life by staying on campus meeting new people and new things. I’ve been at Xavier for almost a month now and I don’t have any regrets at all. I have met new friends and learned lots of things that I didn’t know. So I am happy that I chose XULA to be my number one college to receive an education.
