How has poverty helped and hurt new orleans? Saturday, Oct 25 2008

Lets be real poverty doesn’t benefit anybody. It makes people struggle and become more cut throat than they need to be. Poverty has made the New Orleans residents violent and reckless. This has made New Orleans 1 of the top 3 dangerous cities in the U.S. It has given a new name to those who want more in life. You look around and all you may see is ghettos and homeless which is not a good thing. i do not understand how a very famous and potentially prominent city can let very crucial parts of i go down the drain. Yes, i do believe that poverty has had a hand in preserving the cities culture and heritage but you can still do that in many other ways a well. Poverty has never helped anybody unless that person was trying to obtain that level of status and i bet after they have become of the poverty community they wish that they could be wealthy and not have as much loss as the lower level community has. I have lived in poverty before and nothing is cool about it. Having a hard time trying to find something to eat, having hardly no money to keep things circulating within the house hold, and a car that barely worked. At least we were able to keep ourselves clean and our clothes washed. Like i said poverty hardly helps anyone. The ones that have suffered the wrath of poverty and that are fortunate or hard working enough to get out of that status have my blessing.

 

My professional plans for the future and where xavier fits in them? Saturday, Oct 25 2008

 I plan on owning my own business in the future. A business that builds everything from electronics to street post. I have a vision of having a business , with a familiar face. What i mean by that is I plan on being the main supplier of house hold appliances and things we see everyday. I want everything to be made by my company and i want t be at the top of it all. I know it ill take a long time to get where i want to be because that is such a big dream and i know it will take long hours and hard work but i am willing to go the distance. Giving the circumstances of the economy breaking down i need to take notes about the surviving businesses that aren’t going put through much of a drastic change and will still be thriving after it is all over. Xavier University is the beginning of it all because i will get the education and advice i need to take the right the path. Here at Xavier i will participate in many of the business departments activies and events to get what i need. Hopefully i will meet future business and form bonds with them so that in the future if our businesses may collide and do big business. Xavier university will be step 1 in my long journey to put myself at the top of the mountain and provide for myself and my family when i make me one.

 

Who do i think would be a good political leader? Saturday, Oct 25 2008

To tell you now i do not think anyone yet would be the political leader for me. Mainly because i haven’t found anyone yet that grabs my attention. I know Obama has made great points and has me hooked to his every word but im not including him because of the fact that he is already running for president and is already a good political leader. Im not that interested in politics really. I will pay attention to them only to keep up with what is happening in America now but as for having a direct opinion about things, it not very likely that i will be thinking to much on what everybody else is thinking so i will be trying to do my own thing and if politics and my path mmay cross i will be sure to give them my full attention. Today i think that politics is really evil or mabye just bad for human nature. It forces men to judge one another harshly without holding back any it exposes secrets about a politicians who just may be right for the economy and community around him or her but many times the past candidates past mistakes and actions has led the community to see only those mistakes and actions and not the true intentions o that person. Mabye i am a little naive but i do believe in keeping an open mind about everything because everything is not in black and white( not a racial thing) as many may think.

 

 

 

My favorite class at Xavier? Saturday, Oct 25 2008

I really do not have a favorite class yet because i fill that i am here to do my work and that is it. As for not liking a class my most unliked class is my reading class because it is too easy. There is no doubt in my mind that i will pass. But now that i think about it my least unliked class is my english class. It is one of the only classes that actually will challenge me and i can see myself using for the rest of my life.it may be sort of boring but its nice to sit in a class room full of cute girls.That part i do like. I am not putting down any of my other classes but i do not see me using logarithmic functions to finish a business transaction. Dr. Todd seems like a cool teachers but i do not expect him to cut me any slack while i am in his class, really i dont expect any of my teachers to let me just make it through and slide through the cracks. I am willing to do my best but as a student in a challenging university the teachers need to come up with a work schedule that wont make there class work get in the way of each others class work because when a student has work put on him left and right and the classes he or she is taking are formitable classes student will not be filling so perky if you know what i mean.

 

 

Why I chose X.U. Saturday, Oct 25 2008

The reason I came to Xavier is very simple, I have family that works here so I am granted free tuition. My father is the new chairman of the music department. I could have chose Nicholls state or Georgia Tech but I figured that it would be the best decision if I went here because it is considered a great school to attend. I also thought that it would look good on my transcript and resume’. My dad has always told me about the high standards at Xavier and now i know what he means. The teachers here strive for excellence out of their students and now i am glad that i chose to  come here. I really wouldn’t make any sense not to come to one of the only black universities in the country not to mention the only black catholic school in the United States. Here i can get a good education and i can build a good foundation for me to start from when i am out of college and ready to start my life out. A real good reason is that Xavier University has a very prominent business deprtment and i figured it would help give me the knowledge i need to get my foot in the door of the business world. Finally another reason is that im not really ready to leave new orleans and go out of state to a unfamiliar area im just now gettiing used to louisiana sense i have moved from georgia. Really this is a good school to atend if you are a young black male.
