What would Barack Obama’s father think of the book? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

The book depicted the image of interracial family in does day. I think Obama’s father would had wish he had given his son a better childhood. He would be proud of his accomplishments and been able to overcome all the obstacle he encountered. Coming from a African family I think he father would he wish he did a better job in trying to keep is family together. Obama’s father would had taught the book was a moving, thrilling and powerful story. I think Obama’s father would wish he could rewind time and try to start all over. Obama’s father would had thanked the grandparents and the people in his son life for helping him to be an adult since he couldn’t be there to show him how to be a man. I think Obama’s father would think he made his people proud, and not only his white family be also his African family.

What is your favorite class at Xavier and why? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

My favorite class in Xavier is my English class, that is taught by Dr. pounds. It my favorite class because its relaxing and there is enough time to do the work given . English is my worst subject so I never really gotten anything higher the a B. It might be because I’m its my second language or it because I learned British English growing up. English is my favorite class because there a only nine student in the class and I am able to focus better and get attention when I need help. I’m also able to get work done efficiently. It might also be my favorite because I’ve not received and grade below a B in the class. I’m able to comprehend better and get help on the essays given by the reading center. English class is my favorite because its my most diverse class. I think the class would boost my confidence in all the writings I have to do.

How has poverty benefited New Orleans? How has it hurt New Orleans? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

Poverty has benefited New Orleans in numerous ways. Poverty has benefited New Orleans by helping it to keep it own culture, in terms of food, music and festivals. it helps attract a lot of public attention from outside. If New Orleans had been modernized it wouldn’t be the New Orleans we see now. The poverty stricken city is what give it’s own originality. Believe it or not New Orleans is the city I’ve seen closest to an European country city. The poverty has hurt New Orleans by making it unable to protect itself from its landscape, since New Orleans is below sea level.Volunteer from everywhere have come to help rebuild New Orleans because of the poverty level. New Orleans government hasn’t grow any stronger since they have been dependent on outside help and volunteering.

What type of leadership skills do you posess? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

I don’t consider myself to be a leader because I have a more introverted personality. I like being surrounded by people, but I often have neutral feelings about everything that discourage me from taking leadership positions. When it comes to group work in class, I never volunteer to be the director. Instead, I choose to give a contributions or suggestions. However, I do posses some leadership skills. I was the captain of my track team in high school, which taught me how to be a good leader. I wasn’t the best in any specific event but I was the most well rounded athlete on the team, so I was given the position as captain. I was able to lead my team through practices, track meets and even championships because I learned how to respect my teammates and motivate them. I appreciated them for their specialties and helped them work on their weaknesses. In return, I was respected for my seniority and my scrupulosity. I helped my coach with paper work and I helped him to run practices. Therefore I learned all the aspects of being a leader. Being the leader of a team also made me more popular at school, which was an added bonus. Even though I don’t assume leadership roles in my everyday life, I appreciate the skills that I learned through track and I hope to incorporate them into different aspects of my life in the future.

What are your professional plans and how does Xavier’s mission affect that? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

My professional plan after graduating college and medical school is to become a doctor. Reaching this goal will take 11 years of school. I don’t mind going to school, because it will help me to grow as a person and I will get to meet a lot of people in and out of my professional field. My goal to be a doctor has been influenced by my desire to help and also by my motivation to be the first doctor in my family. I’ve always wanted to be a doctor since I was younger, and I still want to be one now. My dad used to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and my response was always “I want to be a doctor”. I had various injuries in my life that I always tried to take care of for myself instead of going to a professional, which I really needed to do. Xavier’s mission statement encourages me to reach my goal because it motivates me to be the best I can be in my field. Xavier’s prominent pre-medicine program will also help me to get into a good medicine school, which will ultimately help me reach my goal of becoming a doctor.

Why did you choose to come to Xavier? Sunday, Oct 11 2009

Since the majority of Xavier students are either pre-pharmacy or pre-medicine majors, there is usually a common reason why students come to Xavier. It is because Xavier is a high-ranking university with well-known programs in the medicine and pharmacy fields. I chose to come to Xavier University because I wanted to get as far away from home as possible. Unfortunately, I’m not far enough because my parents still call me everyday.  However, more importantly, I chose to come to Xavier because I wanted to be successful in getting into medical school. I figured that Xavier was the best choice for me since it would help me reach my goal. I didn’t do a lot of research about Xavier when I was applying to college because it has been my number one choice since the ninth grade. Even though Xavier was basically the only school I applied to, I am happy with my decision to come to Xavier. New Orleans is an extremely interesting place and I look forward to learning more about the city as well as medicine during my four years here.
