The mission statement of Xavier University of Louisiana reads: “Xavier University of Louisiana, founded by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society. This preparation takes place in a diverse learning and teaching environment that incorporates all relevant educational means, including research and community service.” Since I could not get into contact with a senior, I decided to interview a junior about his thoughts of Xavier’s mission statement. Blake told me that he agrees with all the concepts mentioned in the statement. He likes how Xavier places a high value on education and offers students a learning environment dedicated towards obtaining success. He agrees that Xavier does prepare its students for their future and molds them into future leaders. Blake says that although Xavier is a Historically Black University, it is filled with people from different regions and countries. He says that Xavier’s diverse learning environment provides students with the opportunity to appreciate the differences of others. Attending Xavier also provides him with an opportunity to interact with students from different backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities. He also states that Xavier does an excellent job at integrating modern technology into the lessons, preparing the students for working in a world that depends heavily on these tools. He told me that he likes it at Xavier and he is glad that he chose to come here. Blake feels as though the university is really preparing him for his future endeavors. He said that Xavier truly sticks to the statements of the mission statement and carries out this mission on a daily basis.

I thought for sure you would interview the same person as your sister. I think she interviewed a junior named Michelle. But I can’t remember. Anyway, I had a student about two years ago named Blake. I wonder if it’s the same guy.
